Halloween (I+II)
Our latest single, and easily our spookiest.
Notes from Neil, who wrote the tune:
Fall is my favorite season, and Halloween is my favorite holiday. The month of October gets me nostalgic to an almost absurd degree - the dropping temperatures, the decorated houses, watching horror movies, and of course seeing costumed young'uns trick-or-treating in droves. It all triggers very happy memories, and warm cozy feelings for me.
But there's also another feeling I get that's hard to describe, but equally pleasurable: a sort of dark, ominous veil that blankets the whole month of October, a feeling that...something...could happen. Something unsettling, something dangerous, creepy, something out of a horror movie maybe. When I was a kid I legit used to imagine that, the night before Halloween, the streets would be overrun with ghosts, skeletons, zombies, all the shit that scared me growing up (and lowkey still does). Meanwhile I'd be inside at my parents house, eating a piping-hot bowl of chili, safe and sound in my childhood innocence.
"Halloween" is a 2-part suite: Part 1 captures that combination of warm nostalgia and unsettling anticipation; Part 2 is my childhood imagination taking off, picturing what happens if those spooky spectres really do come out to "play." Thanks for taking the time to read and listen :)
